What happened to Hardik Pandya Injury Updates

India faced Bangladesh in the fourth league match of the World Cup 2023 at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 19. India won the toss and elected to field first, hoping to restrict the opposition to a low score.

However, things did not go as planned for the hosts as they suffered a major injury scare in the ninth over of the innings.

India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya twisted his left ankle while trying to stop a straight drive by Litton Das and had to leave the field in pain.

Pandya’s injury raised concerns over his availability for the rest of the tournament and his role in India’s batting and bowling departments.

Pandya’s injury and assessment

Pandya was bowling his first over of the match when he injured himself. He got up and tried to walk but fell back to the ground as the Indian medical team rushed in.

He received treatment on the field and got his ankle taped. He attempted to continue his over but could not bear the pain and decided to walk off with the help of the physios. He was taken for scans to assess the extent of his injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted an update on Pandya’s condition, saying that his injury was being assessed and he was being taken for scans. The on-air commentators confirmed that Pandya would not return to the field for the remainder of the first innings. However, there was no news about his availability to bat in the second innings.

Pandya’s importance for India

Pandya is a key member of India’s team as he provides balance and depth in both batting and bowling.

He has picked up five wickets in three games so far in the World Cup, including two crucial ones against Pakistan in Ahmedabad. He has also scored 11 not out against Australia in a low-scoring encounter.

His absence would mean that India would have to rely on their other all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is more of a spinner than a pacer, or bring in an extra bowler or batsman depending on the conditions and the opposition.

Pandya’s injury could also affect India’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals as they are currently placed third in the points table with two wins and one loss.

Conclusion

India’s World Cup campaign suffered a setback as Hardik Pandya injured his ankle while bowling against Bangladesh in Pune.

Pandya’s injury is being assessed and he was taken for scans to determine its severity.

Pandya is a vital player for India as he contributes with both bat and ball and adds flexibility and firepower to their line-up. His injury could hamper India’s performance and prospects in the tournament as they face tougher opponents in their remaining matches.

India would hope that Pandya recovers soon and returns to action as they aim to win their third World Cup title.
