How Ravindra Jadeja bamboozled Steve Smith with a peach of a delivery

Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets as Australia collapsed to 199 all out in the fifth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat, but they got off to a poor start, losing David Warner early to Mohammed Shami. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne then steadied the ship with a 50-run partnership, but Jadeja struck twice in quick succession to remove both batsmen.

Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey tried to rebuild the innings, but they were both dismissed by Jadeja to leave Australia struggling at 135/5. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins then added a quickfire 30 runs for the sixth wicket, but Jadeja returned to complete his five-wicket haul and dismiss Starc.

Cummins and Adam Zampa then added 40 runs for the seventh wicket to give Australia some hope, but the latter was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal to leave Australia at 199/8. Cummins and Nathan Lyon then added a few more runs before the innings was finally wrapped up in the 50th over.

Jadeja was the star of the show with the ball for India, returning figures of 5/42. Shami and Chahal also picked up two wickets each.

India will now be looking to chase down the target of 200 and get their World Cup campaign off to a winning start.
