World Cup Semi-Finals Almost Decided

World Cup Semi Finals

World Cup Semi-Finals: The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is almost over, as we know the top four teams will play in the semi-finals. New Zealand’s big win over Sri Lanka on Thursday has ensured that they will be in the last four along with India, South Africa, and Australia. Pakistan and Afghanistan, on the other hand, are almost out of the tournament unless something amazing happens in their last group matches.

New Zealand’s Strong Performance

New Zealand bounced back from four consecutive World Cup defeats with a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday to ensure they will be in the last four.

Chasing the target of 172, New Zealand’s openers Devon Conway (45) and Rachin Ravindra (42) got off to a good start and Daryl Mitchell (43) took them close to the target before reaching the target in 23.2 overs.

New Zealand’s big win over Sri Lanka means the semi-final stage of the competition could only change if something very surprising happens.

New Zealand’s big win over Sri Lanka took their net run rate to +0.743 and almost ensured that they will reach the semi-finals in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

World Cup Semi-Finals Positions

India is sure to finish first in the table, while we already know that South Africa and Australia will finish second and third and will play each other in the semi-finals.

The Black Caps’ win over Sri Lanka means they are most likely to finish fourth and play India, although Pakistan still have a chance of clinching the final spot in the knockout stage with a huge win over England in their last group match. There is a small chance.

Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals after New Zealand’s big win are very difficult: if they bat first, they have to win by at least 287 runs and if they are chasing, they have to defeat England by 50 runs.

Have to be out on runs and chase the target of 100 runs in two overs or three overs. All this looks extremely unlikely, which means the top four of the World Cup is almost certain.

Afghanistan’s chances are also less because their net run rate is less than Pakistan’s. They will play South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday.

If the standings remain the same, India will play New Zealand in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15, while the semi-finals between South Africa and Australia will take place in Kolkata the next day.

If Pakistan manages to overtake New Zealand and finish fourth, India’s match with its big rival will be held in Kolkata on Thursday and the South Africa vs Australia match will be held in Mumbai a day earlier.

Conclusion

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has been a very exciting and competitive tournament, with many close matches and good performances. The semi-finals are almost decided, with India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand ready to fight for the trophy.

Pakistan and Afghanistan still have slim chances of making it, but they will have to do some amazing things in their last matches. Fans are waiting for the knockout stage, which will be even more fun and exciting.
