IND vs PAK Pre Match Ceremony

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was supposed to kick off with a spectacular pre match ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The ceremony, which was heavily advertised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before the match, featured famous artists like Arijit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh, who performed live for the stadium audience.

However, to the shock and dismay of millions of viewers across the country and the world, the ceremony was not broadcasted by Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the World Cup in India. Instead, the channel showed its usual pre-match analysis and commentary, leaving the fans clueless about the reason behind the decision.

Star Sports later issued a statement on its official Twitter account, saying that the ceremony was planned only for the stadium audience and was not meant for broadcast. The statement did not offer any explanation or apology for the decision, which angered many fans who felt cheated and disappointed.

Some fans also pointed out that there was no opening ceremony for the World Cup before the first match between England and New Zealand on October 5, and wondered why there was a need for a pre match ceremony only for India vs Pakistan. They also criticized the BCCI for hyping up the ceremony without informing the viewers that it would not be broadcasted.

The controversy overshadowed what was otherwise a thrilling match between India and Pakistan, which India won by seven wickets. India bowled out Pakistan for 191 in 46.4 overs, thanks to a brilliant spell by Jasprit Bumrah, who took 2-19 in nine overs and was named the man of the match. Rohit Sharma then scored a blistering 86 off 63 balls to lead India’s chase, which they completed in 28.5 overs.
